Pas op voor neppe AI bots die je Ethereum stelen
Steeds meer mensen worden slachtoffer van een oude trading bot-scam die opnieuw is uitgebracht, maar nu met een slim trucje: het gebruik van AI-hype om betrouwbaarder over te komen. Dit meldt blockchain-beveiligingsbedrijf SlowMist.
Hoe werkt de truc?
Oplichters liften mee op de populariteit van kunstmatige intelligentie door de naam “ChatGPT” te koppelen aan hun scam bots. Wat eerst bekend stond als de “Uniswap Arbitrage MEV Bot,” heet nu de “ChatGPT Arbitrage MEV Bot.” Door simpelweg deze nieuwe naam te gebruiken, wekken de oplichters meer vertrouwen en trekken ze de aandacht van onwetende gebruikers.
De scammers beweren dat de bot is ontwikkeld met hulp van ChatGPT. Dit zou eventuele twijfels over de betrouwbaarheid van de code wegnemen. Ze beloven flinke winsten door het monitoren van nieuwe tokens en schommelingen in prijzen op het Ethereum-netwerk.
Stap voor stap in de val
Gebruikers wordt gevraagd om een MetaMask-wallet aan te maken en op een frauduleuze link te klikken via het platform Remix. Vervolgens kopiëren ze de code van de bot en zetten deze live. Het enige wat je daarna nog moet doen, is Ethereum storten om de bot “te activeren.” De belofte: hoe meer je stort, hoe hoger de winst.
Maar zodra je op “start” klikt, verdwijnt je gestorte Ethereum rechtstreeks naar de wallet van de oplichters. Het slimme stukje code dat in het contract zit, zorgt ervoor dat de opbrengst snel naar exchanges of tijdelijke opslagadressen wordt gestuurd.
Kleine beetjes, grote schade
SlowMist heeft drie adressen van oplichters getraceerd die op deze manier werken. Eén van hen heeft sinds augustus meer dan 30 Ether (zo’n $78.000) gestolen van meer dan 100 mensen. Twee anderen hebben samen 20 Ether gestolen van 93 slachtoffers.
De tactiek van de oplichters is om kleine bedragen te stelen van veel verschillende mensen. Voor veel slachtoffers is het vaak niet de moeite waard om tijd en geld te investeren om hun verloren bedrag terug te krijgen, omdat de schade relatief klein lijkt.
Hoe herken je deze scams?
De scammers promoten hun bots vaak via platforms zoals YouTube. SlowMist waarschuwt voor video’s die bijvoorbeeld niet goed gesynchroniseerd zijn of beelden hergebruiken. Ook video’s met opvallend veel positieve reacties, terwijl je verderop in de comments ziet dat mensen melden dat het een scam is, zijn een waarschuwingssignaal.
Blijf alert
In tijden waarin AI overal opduikt, is het belangrijk om extra voorzichtig te zijn. Controleer altijd goed waar je je geld in stopt, en blijf alert op rode vlaggen. Een belofte van snelle winsten klinkt vaak te mooi om waar te zijn – en dat is het meestal ook.
