Bitcoin-whales blijven rustig: Wat betekent dit voor de markt?
Sinds Bitcoin in maart een nieuwe piek bereikte, zijn de grote spelers op de markt – ook wel whales genoemd – opvallend minder actief geworden. Deze whales, die minstens 10.000 BTC bezitten, lijken geduldig af te wachten op het juiste moment om weer toe te slaan. Volgens gegevens van blockchain-analyseplatform Santiment zijn de wekelijkse transacties van meer dan $100.000 met 33,6% afgenomen sinds Bitcoin op 13 maart een recordhoogte van $73.679 behaalde. Ether (ETH) kende zelfs een nog sterkere daling, met een afname van 72,5% in dezelfde periode.
Hoewel de afname van whale-activiteit opvallend is, ziet Santiment dit niet als een slecht teken. Whales hebben zowel in stijgende als dalende markten invloed, en kiezen vaak hun momenten om te handelen tijdens extreme angst of hebzucht op de markt.
Marktsentiment: Angst biedt kansen?
Momenteel staat de Crypto Fear & Greed Index op 31 van de 100, wat aangeeft dat er angst heerst op de markt. Toch zien veel investeerders dit als een kans om in te stappen. De prijs van Bitcoin is sinds 13 augustus licht gedaald naar rond de $58.360, maar volgens sommige analisten kan de prijs verder dalen voordat de markt zich herstelt.
Markus Thielen van 10x Research voorspelt dat Bitcoin wellicht tot in de lage $40.000 kan dalen, wat volgens hem een goed instapmoment zou zijn voor de volgende bullmarkt. Als Bitcoin echter naar $45.000 zakt, zou dit onzekerheid kunnen veroorzaken (FUD), maar een herstel richting $70.000 kan juist leiden tot een golf van ‘fear of missing out’ (FOMO).
Volatiliteit: De norm in crypto
Ondanks de huidige marktvolatiliteit blijven handelaren kalm. Ajeet Khurana, oprichter van Reflexical, benadrukt dat het belangrijk is om te focussen op de lange termijn en niet te worden afgeleid door korte termijn schommelingen.
“De waarde van Bitcoin blijft zich op lange termijn bewijzen,” aldus Khurana.
Ook de anonieme handelaar Daan Crypto Trades liet weten dat de huidige volatiliteit niets is waar handelaren zich zorgen over maken:
“We hebben het vaker meegemaakt de laatste weken.”
De whales lijken op het juiste moment te wachten, terwijl investeerders angstig blijven. Maar voor sommigen is dat juist het moment om kansen te benutten.
