Amazon tilt Alexa naar een hoger niveau met AI van Anthropic
Amazon staat op het punt om zijn populaire virtuele assistent, Alexa, een flinke upgrade te geven met de inzet van het geavanceerde Claude AI-model van Anthropic. Deze verandering, die in oktober wordt doorgevoerd, komt met een prijskaartje: voor de nieuwe premium versie zullen gebruikers tussen de €5 en €10 per maand moeten betalen. De klassieke versie van Alexa blijft wel gratis beschikbaar.
Oorspronkelijk wilde Amazon Alexa verbeteren met hun eigen ontwikkelde AI-software. Maar deze modellen bleken te traag te reageren of gaven Alexa moeite met het vinden van de juiste antwoorden. Hierdoor besloot Amazon samen te werken met Anthropic, een AI-bedrijf waarin het eerder al €4 miljard investeerde. Dankzij het Claude-model kan Alexa straks beter gesprekken voeren en complexere taken uitvoeren met één enkel verzoek.
Opvallend is dat Amazon niet de enige techgigant is die in Anthropic investeert. Ook Alphabet, het moederbedrijf van Google, heeft een belang van €2 miljard in het bedrijf. Deze nauwe banden tussen grote techbedrijven en AI-ontwikkelaars zorgen echter voor bezorgdheid bij toezichthouders wereldwijd. In het Verenigd Koninkrijk onderzoekt de Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) bijvoorbeeld of Amazon’s investeringen in Anthropic de concurrentie niet verstoren.
Hoewel er zorgen zijn over de groeiende invloed van Big Tech op de AI-markt, benadrukte de CEO van Anthropic, Dario Amodei, onlangs dat de toekomst van AI waarschijnlijk meer zal lijken op een “corporate takeover” dan op een opstand van robots.
